EDUC 2130-Lesson 1:

Whale Done!

Overview Viewpoint:

Lesson one of EDUC 2130 focuses on the relationship between co-workers and also with students. This assignment consisted of watching a video that used taking care of whales as and example of treating people. The whales can be seen as student, they trust in you. Its an inspirational video. The research for the lesson consist with the Whale Done topic and focuses on the importance of being positive.

  • Do you agree with the concepts described in the video? Why or why not?

-build trust -accenuate the positive- pay attention, working together, caring enough to w/ someone -redirect-dont focus on whats wrong & focus on whats right I agree with all of the concepts. I feel all of them helps with getting to know people and making it better to work with people. These concepts help people see the importance of working with people and how it might affect you or them.

  • Which one do you agree with the most? Why?

Building Trust was the one i agreed with the most. I feel like its one of the most important things when you do a lot of things. You have to build trust in work places, households, and in public places like resuarants. What i mean by resuarants i mean how you build trust with your waiter. You depend on them, you have conversation with them. They make impressions on you so that you know that you can trust them with the experience. You build trust everyday with just having conversations and communicating with someone. For the work place you have to build the trust of your bosses and the people you work with. This allows them to be able to trust you and be able to depend on you. Building trust goes much further then just trust it sets off how people also precieve you. Not putting in effort to build trust to some people may make it look like you don't care. This causes things to not work out and makes things hard.

  • In general terms, how could you implement the concepts in your classroom? Provide specifics.

These general terms can be implemented by playing games with your students and getting to know them and them getting to know you. For bulding trust you can start with ice breakers. That will help them learn things about you. You also need to understand the children and listen to what they have to say so they know that you care. Showing that you are for your students helps in the classrooms. When they trust you and know that you want the best for them it makes it a little more easier for them to learn. You also have to pay attention to you students.

  • How important to you is building trust and establishing relationships? Explain.

Its very important to me. I feel like this is how people work together better and a great way to get along. When people dont build trust or dont want to establish a relationship it tends to be a bad environment. You become not being liked as much and it makes people to not want to be around you or dont care to know you. At a work place it would be very important because you have to work together with other people and for things to go successful you would have to be able to have good communication with them and a good relationship. Its important to me because i want people to know that im a very positive person. I want people to know that i do care. Establishing relationships is a postive thing and beneficial.

  • The video states that it is important to find out what motivates the individual whales. Would this be the same for your students? Why?

Yes, I say this because sometimes people need to be motivated. Its a way of caring. Its good to know what pushes a student to be successful. Its good to know some ways to get your students where they need to be. Its a way of helping them because all students are different some they are not going to be a like or be motivated by the same things. So thats is way its good to find out what motivates your students. Its also a way of showing that you do care and that you want to understand them so you can help them. It becomes beneficial.

  • Do you think that it is important to keep things interesting for your students?

How would you do this for your students? Yes, i think when things are interesting it keeps them more focused. When students think things are boring they tend to not care and not pay attention to it. I think when students are interested they tend to want to know more. I way that i want to keep my students focused is that i want to be more of a hands on teacher. I want them to learn in a physical way of seeing it. When students are doing things more hands on they are more into it and it helps them understand it better more in detail. I think having more hands on classes are important because classes like lecture classes doesnt give them much experience. For those that are verbal learners those classes would work good for them but what about those who are visual learners or kinesthetic learners who like physical be able to touch things to learn. Thats why i want to be more of hands on teacher, i can speak and show them examples are the same time.

  • Describe "redirection" the best you can - you might have to do some Internet research

One thing i like from the video and as he was describing redirection he said "Dont focus on the wrong, but focus on the right." Basically to me it means you have to turn things into the good instead of leaving it bad. Its about staying positive in my opinion.

  • Summary

This lesson focuses on the importance of getting along with people (or students) and the ways you can do it. I liked this lesson because it makes you think a lot more about it. It makes you see different ways people show trust or redirection and allows being positive. When working with children you have to be all of the concepts. Without it your students may not have the trust you want with them. This may have an effect on their school work and their progress. I like how in the videos how they used the whales as examples. It makes it understanding in a different way in my opinion. In addition to the paragraphs required for the above

Research Question                                                                                                                                                  Why is it important to have a positive attitude with your students?

  • Research Anaylsis

A positive attitude is exceptionally important for children of all ages, and it can be taught as well as reinforced by teachers, parents, and other authority figures in the child’s life. Research has suggested that teacher-child relationships play a significant role in influencing young children’s social and emotional development. In studies of teacher-child relationships, children who had a secure relationship with their preschool and kindergarten teachers demonstrated good peer interactions and positive relationships with teachers and peers in elementary school. Children who had insecure relationships with teachers had more difficulty interacting with peers and engaged in more conflict with their teachers. In addition, research has shown that teachers’ interaction styles with children help children build positive and emotionally secure relationships with adults. Research has also suggested that teacher-child relationships play a significant role in influencing young children’s social and emotional development.

Teachers are role models for their students all day, every day, so I take my actions and behavior very seriously. Modeling positive behavior and discussing it with students helps create a positive environment where students feel safe and cared for and where they can develop behavioral skills they will use the rest of their lives.

    Research Summary

I've found many different tips for keeping a positive attitude in classrooms and why its important or teachers to be positive. Sometimes things happen in classrooms that us teachers cannot control but its important for us to find ways to be positive. Its important for us to be positive for the students because the feed off the vibes and if a teacher is in a bad mood it makes students mood change also. Children see us as examples so we have to show them the importance of being positvie and how it makes you into who you are. Sometimes you just have to look at things like failing a class and turning it into a positive like it showing you how you should do things differently. Being more positive creates less stress.
