Video Questions
Why do you think Ryan committed suicide?
I think he committed suicide because he felt like he didn’t belong. Even after the bullying stopped I think he still believed all the mean things that the kids used to say to him. He could never get past it. He let all the mean things get to him and defeat him. I think Ryan was just in depression and never asked anyone for help. I think that’s another reason why because he was never able to receive what he needed.
Bullying Questions
-
Question #1
What does bullying mean to you? What are some examples of bullying?
Bullying to me is when someone does something to hurt your feelings or put you down. Bullying to me is when someone who has low self-esteem about themselves and tries to hurt others. Bullying is a bad and hurtful thing that happens to everyone even without realizing it. An example of bullying is making fun of someone because of the way they look. Like putting them down. Another example is physically harming someone purposely. Like hitting them or pushing them.
-
Question #2
What is the difference between teasing and bullying? Describe.
The little difference between teasing and bullying is that teasing is more of just making fun of someone just for the fun of it. Teasing is a little less harmless, bullying is more physically and psychologically damaging. Teasing is also like copying someone’s actions. Bullying can be more like threatening. Bullying is more aggressive and negative then teasing.
-
Question #3
How does bullying affect a person physically and emotionally? Why do you think some students continue to bully others even when they know how much their victims are hurting?
Bullying can sometimes hurt someone’s self-esteem. Sometimes people stop eating and sometimes even cut themselves because of bullying. Emotionally someone can be depressed. They tend to not want to be around others. Some might even hide the fact that it’s hurting causing it to hurt them even more because there in denial. I think some continue to bully others because they do it for their own self-esteem. They think about themselves and not about who they are hurting.
-
Question #4
Why do some victims refuse to tell someone about a bullying incident? If you were a bullying victim, would you tell your parents or a teacher? Why or why not?
Sometimes the victim might be scared to tell someone is because they are scared that the bully might hurt them even more. Some are even scared because some might label them as a “snitch” or tattle tale”. Victims also refuse because they think that it’s going to stop on its own even when it’s not. One thing I might do it tell my mom. I hear a lot of stories about students telling their teachers and them not doing anything about it. When you hear stories like that it scares you. I know my parents would do anything possible to keep me safe so yes, I would tell them.
-
Question #5
Have you ever witnessed a bullying incident in your school? What were the circumstances? How was the situation resolved? As a witness, do you think you had a responsibility to intervene? Why or why not?
I have witnessed a bullying incident in my school. Sometimes even coming from the group of people that I used to hang around. These situations were never really resolved at my school because no one really never told. They just stayed to themselves. As a witness I would try to help as much as I can. I would let someone know when they were wrong. It’s a responsibility To this day, when I see people that are always by themselves and I always say hi to them or have a conversation with them because to me sometimes that’s all they need to have a good day.
-
Question #6
How does your school staff handle bullying incidents (warning, detention, suspension, etc.)? Do you agree with the school's measures? Why or why not?
From the few that I have saw it was more of warnings. Only because the school that I went to didn’t really do much unless they had real solid proof. In elementary school I remember when these two sisters got suspended for a few days for bullying. I agree when schools take actions with bullying. Bullying is a serious thing and can lead to death if not taken care of.
-
Question #7
What is "cyberbullying?" Provide an example of cyberbullying.
Cyberbullying is when someone bullies you over the internet. This happens through electronics like phones, computers, and tablets. Cyberbullying is different from regular bullying because they can bully the person even when they are all by themselves. This goes the extra mile like bullying them by messages and pictures. An example of bullying is posting embarrassing pictures of someone or making a mean fake profile of someone.
-
Question #8
Should teachers, staff and administration take some type of course or program to learn more about bullying?
I think bullying is pretty much self-explanatory. I do however think they should take something because not everyone knows what to do in them situations. Many times when a victim ask for help from them this is the reason why it’s not taken care of because the teachers doesn’t know what to. Sometimes teachers and staff are even scared of parent’s conflict. These people need to know that things aren’t about them and that the student safety is always first.
-
Question #9
How would you, as a teacher, respond if you witnessed bullying?
The first thing I was would do is make sure that the person bullying is dealt with. After I would let the parents know of the situation. Then I would let the student know that they are a responsibility and that they are not alone. I think that’s important for a victim of bullying. Most times they start to feel alone and feel like they have nobody there for them. I want them to know that they can trust me. I would also let the parents know of the situation just to make sure that they can help him at home and make sure that he’s not being cyberbullied.

When not dealt with properly they can go through poor academic performances and sometimes won’t even attend school anymore. They tend to not want to come because they are afraid to see the person they are being bullied by.
Although, some effects of bullying can go away easily some cant. In extreme cases victims committee suicide. It is said that suicide from bullying is the third leading cause of death from young people. They estimate there is about 4,400 deaths per year from this. Research Summary
Bullying causes a lot of effects. Some not as serious but can lead to something more serious. A lot of times bullying can result in suicide. This is because the victim doesn’t get any help. Either because someone doesn’t know how to go about it or they just don’t know that the victim is being bullied. Bullying is one of the top causes of deaths by young people and that showed show how serious it is. It happens worldwide and I don’t think that it’s right.
