EDU 2110 - Poverty Paper
I have many thoughts about Poverty. It happens all across the world and its a horrible thing. This is something in different ways can lead to death from starvation to crime. Many crimes happen because of poverty. Drug dealing and robbery happen from those in poverty just so they can get by. You usually wouldnt see someone that lives in a mansion who is a millionaire selling drugs. If the government really want to tackle crime thats something they should think about. If they stop poverty there will be less crime.
What’s Wrong With Proverty?
Did you know that there is over 46 million Americans that live in poverty In the U.S.? Poverty has been an issue throughout history. This is something many people go through. Some people considered many things as living in poverty. I feel like when you have to live paycheck to paycheck that’s still living in poverty. When you have to go each day trying to find out how you are going to eat that day, I consider that living in poverty. Poverty isn’t even just in the U.S. this is something that happens all across the world. Poverty is a terrible thing and sometimes a person can move forward in life because of it.
There is many causes that one might live in poverty. Lack of education is one cause for poverty? Some might say how that is but there are not many jobs that make lots of money that are given to those who drop out of high school. When you don’t have much of an education that gives you lack of employment opportunities. Many jobs think that someone who does not have an education does not have the skills to work for them. When people can’t find jobs then they don’t have the money to eat or pay bills causing poverty. Being a single parent can also be a cause, but not everyone. Sometimes when one is to care for children by themselves it can get hard sometimes. They can only bring in a single source of income and sometimes they can’t cover everything that they need. Economy is also another factor for poverty. When the economy is bad then a lot of people become out of jobs.
Bernard Shaw said: "The greatest of evils and the worst of crimes is poverty." This is something that I have to agree with. It is said that many crimes comes from those living in poverty. Why do you think the reasons for people robbing others? It’s because they live in poverty and don’t have any money so they get it from robbing. They do evil things just to survive. Money is definitely the root to all evil but its needed just to get by. Many people who are living in poverty do a lot of illegal things. Usually marijuana or cocaine sellers come from places of poverty. That’s their way of getting by.
I think living in poverty would be a terrible feeling. I personally know how it feels. With someone who had a single mother i saw the struggles that she went through to give us what she could. We cut back on a lot of things. Even going as far as getting things cut off because of not being able to afford. Without money you cannot survive. There is two different poverties. Relative which is when you are poor compared to others but able to survive. Then there is absolute, which is when you don’t have enough money for food, shelter, and clothes and unable to survive. I don’t know how absolute poverty is but I’m sure it is hard. Absolute poverty would mean homeless shelters and other things. I would be scared because I would have to worry about when I would get my next meal.
Poverty is happening everyday all across the world. It is an emotional and important issue. This can serve as a long term or short term effect. These problems can cause physical and mental problems. Poverty has been around for many years and I feel like it’s not going to go away. I feel like this because many will always need government assistance like the sick or mentally ill. They can’t help needing the help because they can’t provide for themselves most times. Then you have people who become temporarily unemployed or temporarily disabled they might need government assistance to help them in poverty. That’s why I feel like poverty will always exist because many people will need help for things that happen unexpecting.
